1.02 DEFINITIONS

A. Blower Door Test: A blower door test is a diagnostic tool used to measure the air tightness of buildings and to locate air leakage. A blower door consists of a calibrated fan for measuring airflow rates, and a pressure-sensing device to measure the air pressure created by the fan. Building pressure and fan air flow measurements are used to determine air leakage rates.

A. Listing of Selected Units: Provide a submittal to the architect listing randomly selected units prior to conducting blower door tests.

Certificate of Field Verification of Diagnostic Testing: If field verification and diagnostic testing determines that the requirements for compliance are met, the HERS rated testing firm shall provide a signed and dated Certificate of Field Verification and Diagnostic Testing to the builder. The Certificate of Field Verification and Diagnostic Testing shall report the successful diagnostic testing results and conclusions regarding compliance for the tested dwelling unit. The Certificate shall not be provided for dwelling units in which the feature requiring field verification and diagnostic testing has not been installed, sealed or completed.

3.01 GENERAL
综述
A. Residential unit pressure differentials: At a minimum, residential units are to be operated at a negative pressure compared with the surrounding spaces of at least 5 PA (0.02 inches of water gauge) and a minimum 1 PA (0.004 inches of water gauge). Performance of differential air pressures shall be verified by conducting 15 minutes of measurement, with a minimum of one measurement every 10 seconds, of the differential pressure in the residential units and public corridors.

B. Residential unit air leakage rates and blower door testing: Minimize uncontrolled pathways for ETS transfer between individual residential units by sealing penetrations in walls, ceilings, and floors in the residential units, and by sealing vertical chases adjacent to the units. Residential units must demonstrate less than 1.25 square inches leakage area per 100 square feet of enclosure area (i.e. sum of all wall, ceiling, and floor areas). Acceptable sealing of residential units shall be demonstrated by a blower door test conducted in accordance with ANSI/ASTM E779-03, Standard Test Method for Determining Air Leakage Rate by Fan Pressurization. Testing shall be done by a HERS rated provider.

C. Blower door and pressurization test sampling: The testing firm shall select a minimum of one out of every seven completed dwelling units, rounded up to the next whole number, for diagnostic testing and field verification. When several dwelling units are ready for testing at the same time, the testing firm shall randomly select the dwelling units to be tested.
